Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme

Places are still available on the VTOS programme (1012-2013) for adults over 21, in receipt of a social welfare payment for 6 months or more.

VTOS is a second chance education programme in a learner friendly environment.

What is VTOS?
It is a Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme, which is suitable for those adults who have been out of education and wish to return. You must fill out a College Application Form and a VTOS Application form. It is a full time day course.

Who is Eligible?
You must be over 21 years and have been receiving benefits 6 months

What are the qualifying benefits?

  • Unemployment on UA or UB
  • Lone Parent Allowance
  • Prisoner’s Spouse
  • An adult dependent or a person in receipt of unemployment assistance
  • A person on Disability Allowance
  • A person on Disability benefit (you must apply to the Exemption Section, Dept of Social, Community & Family Affairs, Store St, Dublin 1 for an exemption)

What benefits will I obtain?
Full weekly Social Welfare payment
As well as and any secondary such as:

  • Fuel Allowance
  • Rent Allowance
  • Christmas Bonus
  • Mortgage Interest Supplements
  • You may also qualify for the 31.80 weekly training allowance if you are on Social Welfare benefits for a year or more.


How much will it cost?

  • No Course Fees
  • Meal Allowance
  • Books are Free but must be returned to the College
  • Travel Allowance (if you are staying more than 3 miles from the college)


What about Crèche Facilities?

  • An allowance will be paid towards crèche places in a community day care centre.


Course Content

  • Individual Leaving Cert Subjects

and/or

  • Full FETAC Level 4 and Level 5 plus Computer Training: ECDL
  • Subjects: Math’s, Communications, Business, Arts & Crafts, Fast Food, Catering, Catering for Diversity, Environmental Studies, Personal Effectiveness and Career Guidance.


How Do I apply for VTOS?
Fill out the VTOS application form attached and available in the college. The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is the first week in September. Applications will be prioritised on the basis of educational need and the length of time you are on Social Welfare. Places are limited so you should apply as soon as possible.
