Special Needs Classroom Assistant

This full-time course is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in special needs assisting in childcare, social or community services. The regulation of the provision of these services, in order to ensure the highest possible standard of delivery, has created employment opportunities for graduates of this course in nurseries, creches, schools, pre-schools and childcare facilities in the public and private sector.

Entry Requirements

School Leavers:
CAO/CAS does not apply to our courses. Students who have passed the Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied or Leaving Certificate Vocational programme are eligible to apply. Applicants must be 17 years of age or over. Applicants will be interviewed.

Mature Students: Listowel Community College welcomes applications from mature students. Entry requirements may be waived for mature students depending on their life experience. Applicants will be interviewed.

Course Fees

There are no course fees and the course is ESF funded. A registration fee and kit fee (i.e. materials will apply). Grants for the course are means tested. Students should apply to their local VEC office regarding eligibility.

Further Studies

Graduates may progress to further studies in the Institute of Technology Tralee and the BA in Early Childhood Studies in UCC through the special access programme. Students may also apply for Diploma/Degree courses in Great Britian and Northern Ireland.
